What's The Greatest R & B and Hip Hop Albums of OUR time?

On Facebook lately, there's been an application that's been popping up lately. It asks you to name the five greatest albums of all-time. I had to actually vote twice. I did one for the north and one for the south. (Yea, I cheated a lil bit.)

I'd like to take it a step further though. Since there were so many greats that I had to leave out, such as UGK's, Ridin' Dirty or Dr. Dre's, the Chronic, it made me wonder, "What's the single greatest hip hop and r & b albums of our-time???

I have to wonder about both, especially on the r & b side, because there has been so many bangers...I mean, there's been classics way before our time alone. So, imagine what our moms, dads, uncles and aunts would add to the discussion. You certainly could argue the fact that Luther Vandross (R.I.P) was the greatest that ever did it. Patti LaBelle and Whitney Houston are in that class of people, that you only need to say their first names, and you automatically know who they are talking about. Yet, of our time, we've got Kels, and Mary J.

If I was to take a stab at it, I'd have to say the greatest rap album of all time was Biggie's, Life After Death and as far as R & B, I have to go with Mary J's, Share My World. I realized that on Facebook, when I clicked on Biggie's, Ready to Die, it's a classic but when I really thought about it, I honestly think that Life After Death was just too much fire for one album...so they had to expand it into a double album. I honestly believe in my heart that Life After Death was just a combination of any album that you can name in comparison to it. (Hip Hop wise, anyway)

I could've made an argument for Kels', 12 Play but just being real, we found out about 12 Play either during the time that Mary dropped Share My World, or for the late bloomers, maybe you learned a little later...to each his own...but you have to admit the fact that when Share My World dropped, it was something that we could all relate to, and were probably going through at the time. When Kels dropped 12 Play, unless you had some extraordinary swag, I seriously doubt that you really knew the game that Kels was puttin' in these ladies' ear, and two, I was in the fifth grade when he dropped that so uhhh...that was a little bit before my time. However, I do realize that we all aren't the same age. So, this just might be number one to some of ya'll. Yet, and still, every song on Share My World was a banger, for the kiddos, you didn't have to buy the K-mart version because she wasn't as explicit as Kels was (on almost every other line) and ofcourse to the fellas, Mary was just oh so bad in that Everything video!!! The album was of most of our time, and it had meaning to it.

I have to be real though, thinking about it, everyone that reads this isn't in the same age bracket. So, you tell me, "What's the greatest hip hop and r & b albums of your time?

Im not really a hip hopper but i can definitely agree with you on the Mary album. It was hot and true indeed, alot of us from your time which is actually my time as well, can relate to. She has a way with words and she really makes you sit down and think about the bad shit as well as the good things going on in your life at that time. So i guess we're on the same page.
